Can derma rolling damage a tattoo or make it disappear? (expert advice as well as anecdotal, most welcome!)?
I have just started using a derma roller treatment for my face and the results are already very good – my skin looks much more even and acne scarring is almost invisible…so I will continue with this. I want to try using the derma roller for stretchmarks though. I understand this works best with a more pressurised and longer needle size (1.5 to 2mm seem to be what most recommend) so I am planning to try it with some anaesthetic cream (which I don’t need for my face). I have stretch marks on my hips and top of my legs and bottom…so that part will take a while and some coordination! But also I have stretchmarks on my boobs but my boobs are tattooed with a tribal design (black outlines with pastel colour shading) and I’m concerned that if I try working on the stretchmarks on my boobs with a weekly session or something, it might affect my tattoo or cause damage to it or make it disappear??? Any advice on this or experiences of this would be most helpful.
What worries me is that derma rolling is meant to trigger the body to release collagen for repair and break down old scarring/collagen concentration…and I vaguely think that when you get a tattoo, it is held in place by the collagen as ‘heals’…I’m pretty sure I’ve heard of some peoples’ bodies rejecting tattoo ink because their collagen didn’t hold onto it??
I almost think I’m answering my own question here! But I would like advice of derma rolling or tattooist or people who work with tattoo removal if possible!
Look forward to hearing from you XX

I haven’t had any response yet – there must be someone out there who knows enough about tattoos…or enough about derma rolling to have an idea. Please respond ![]()
